On occasion, we try a wine so good we buy it all. This year, we’re happy to offer you the Terres Falmet Carignan 2006, a perfect red wine to bring to your spring holiday table or to enjoy with grilled meats, duck or braised brisket. Seth reports that it’s not so bad with Sichuan food either. 15 cases came into New York and we are proud to be able to offer this wine as an exclusive at The Greene Grape.
For his Carignan, Yves Falmet hand-harvests low-yield fruit from 40-year old vines in the french Languedoc region and ages it to capture all its spicy, black, licoricey fruit. In the glass the wine is a dark, almost inky purple. The nose has hints of black cherry and blueberry, with a background of white pepper and sandalwood. On the palate the wine is full of lush dark fruit that mixes with notes of black pepper and spice. In the finish the tannins are present but ripe. This wine is fun and easy to drink, but, at the same time, shows a lot of finesse and complexity.
Yves Falmet is a young vintner and is already a pioneer in green transport of wines. He was one of the first participants in a program, Fair Wind Wine, where his wines were shipped from France to Ireland under sail power instead of being loaded onto a container ship. We expect great things from this vineyard – where there is risk and innovation, there is often great reward.
As always, bring a same-day receipt for $10 or more from Provisions into the wine store and take 5% off your wine purchase. Limit 2 bottles per customer, when it’s gone, it’s gone.
