We have local NYC honey back in stock! La Cacica Honey comes from Bryant Hill in the South Bronx where the bees live in an organic garden and are cared for by Lucia Hernandez. All proceeds from her sale of the honey go directly to the Bryant Hill Community Garden, which is described as an oasis for children living in the South Bronx.
This is the first in a series of local honeys we will carry thanks to NYC Beekeeping, an organization founded in part by The Brooklyn Bee’s own John Howe. NYC Beekeeping is a non-profit association of over 850 beekeepers and bee-lovers that offers free classes in beekeeping, expert and peer mentoring, a cooperative purchase program, and community service & outreach activities throughout the year. Members work with urban farms, community gardens, the NYC Parks Dept., schools and other organizations to foster a strong community of responsible urban beekeepers, to bring training & economic opportunity through beekeeping to underserved areas, and to contribute to the program and fundraising capacities of selected other not-for-profit organizations.
