The Greene Grape will be taking up a collection for the remainder of this week, to help aid some of the lives that have been devastated out in the Rockaways.
We’re working with Occupy Sandy to provide as much help as possible. Our cargo van will be making runs over the weekend and some of our employees will be heading out to offer labor as needed. With temperatures dropping and another storm set to hit NYC today, there will surely be a need for further mutual aid this coming weekend. We can expect that there will still be a need for low-level demolition work, door-to-door canvassing, delivering relief supplies to the elderly/infirm, cleanup operations and work at mass distribution centers
After a good showing from a lot of our friends and customers that donated to the Red Hook relief last week, we feel we’re only getting started. Volunteers at St. Jacobis Church in Sunset Park have told us they’ve already run out of food donations and dozens if not hundreds of the Rockaways’ residents are living off of Army food.
The following items are needed badly: bread, canned goods, cleaning products, bottled water, toilet paper, trash bags, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, Tylenol, ibuprofen, flashlights, lighters, sandwich bags, 1 gal Ziploc bags, matches, power strips/heavy duty power cords, duct tape, plastic sheathing, rope, tarps (things to try and keep the draft out), contractor-sized trash bags, razors, always need flashlights and batteries, baby formula, diapers **Blankets, socks, underwear, jackets are ALWAYS welcomed but no other clothes can be accepted at this time!**
If you’d like to donate supplies or labor, email Michael at [email protected].
