Challah, Holla!

On Wednesday we’ll receive our first ever batch of challah from Hot Bread Kitchen just in time for Rosh Hashanah.  The challah comes in three varieties: traditional, honey raisin, and sephardic.  We have a limited amount so if you’re definitely interested in having it for the holiday, give us a call at (718) 233-2700.

Unlike sweet challah, Sephardic challah is baked with cumin and caraway seeds. This herbaceous bread is delicious enough to eat on its own and makes a great accompaniment to your favorite dip or a hard, nutty cheese like Comté. For more adventurous eaters, try converting it into a unique crouton or even French toast.

Hot Bread Kitchen, in addition to baking some lovely challah, works as a non-profit making traditional breads and using the process to provide immigrant women with careers in baking.  We’ve carried their tortillas and flatbread since our opening and are excited to help them launch this new traditional bread.  They are truly keeping traditions alive while advancing the cause of the underemployed.
