This couldn’t be easier. If you have kids, they can crack and beat the egg and crumble the flour and butter!
1 cup sugar
1 3/4 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
4 tablespoons butter
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar mixed with 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix 1 cup sugar, flour, baking powder in bowl. Work in butter with fingers or pastry cutter until crumby. Add egg, milk, blend. Place in 8-inch square buttered pan or 8-inch cake pan. Sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mixture on top and add nuts (optional). Bake 20-25 minutes. To tell whether it is done, insert a toothpick in the center – when it comes out clean it is done.
