Great Gewürz!

The Manhattan wine store’s Gewürztraminer from Hungary made the Sunday Times! In Howard Goldberg’s “Wines Under $20” feature, he raves that “The 2007 Tramini from Pannonhalmi Apatsagi Pinceszet is a knockout. This bold, dry white, redolent of honey and litchi, rivals superior versions from Alsace, the standard-bearer. Serve it with quiche Lorraine, liver pâté and choucroute garni.”

Seth, the manager of the Manhattan store, gives his two cents:

Gewürztraminer is Tramini in Hungary. I’m not sure what the “rivals superior versions” means exactly, but the wine is great and under $20 which is very rare for Gewürz. I had to look far and wide to find one and was amazed at the quality of the Pannonhalmi. Litchi notes on the nose are simply transporting. Try it with Thai food for something different.
